Up for bid is an original vintage pre-owned 1942-44 U.S. Army Special Services Rawlings DW 10 X Official Soft-Ball Glove. Rare. Found at an estate sale of a collector of baseball memorabilia. The Rawlings No. DW 10 X, « Deep Well Pocket ». A high quality softball glove features the « U » Crotch » and sewed down « Deep Well Pocket ». The combination of the « U Crotch » and Deep Well Pocket » assured correct pocket depth for handling softballs. Made of select glove leather. Full shaped pad, large heel, streamlined fingers and thumb. Leather welted seams, laced heel. Entire glove leather lined. Adjustable H type ball trap. Roll leather bound edges. You can barely read « Special Service U.S. Army » that is stamped to the right of the broad wrist strap, which ties it to the WWII « Baseball Equipment Fund ». The glove is in overall good condition for its age. Thea solid liner and good edge binding has some considerable wear. Some cracks in the leather on the back of the pinkie. Will defer any cleaning and conditioning to the buyer’s discretion, or an easy and satisfying restoration project. It measures 8.5 inches tall by 8.5 inches wide. Most markings are clearly visible. Visible markings include: “Deep Well Pocket » on palm-side. On the front lower pinkie “Official Glove Soft-Ball ». On the bottom of the palm « Rawlings [logo] “DW10X ». on the back side on near the right side of the strap “Special Service U.S. Army.” Selling as is.
