Here is decent RARE top of the line Rawlings vintage 1965 or 1966 top of the line model FP-1 Heart of the Hide (HOH) baseball catchers mitt made in USA for a Right-Hand thrower and thus fits on the left hand. The mitt is a Heart of the Hide (HOH) model, so it has the best quality leather Rawlings used at the time. The rarity of the mitt is Flex-O-Matic Palm 4 break mitt. This mitt was only made for the two years 1965 and 1966 and sold for $44.50. This was the second most expensive catchers mitt Rawlings put out both years, next to the RL-1 model which sold for $46.95. I’m guessing for major league use, the mitt probably became too flexible over time (since similar complaints came from catchers about the double break mitts). The mitt is Major League quality so it is adult sized measuring 12.75″ long (including the sides) and measures a big 32.5″ around the exterior. I always thought the Basket-Web looked cool on a catcher mitt. Stamped on the front of the mitt is « Deep Well » Pocket, the Heart of the Hide bull logo, Flex-O-Matic Palm, Rawlings, Basket-Web and For the Professional Player. On the back is stamped 100% Nylon Sewn, Made in USA, Patent Applied For, and Nu-Grip Streamlined. There is one nice original rectangular Rawlings cloth patch on the back of the web that does show some wear but is readable. Mitt will be shipped USPS Priority Mail and insured. There is no owner’s ink on the mitt. The quality leather is a bit stiff on the backside and softer on the front catching side. But the mitt is very usable still. It fits my adult hand fine but could be a little tight for someone with a bigger hand. There is soft and smooth leather interior leather with no chafing on the interior leather. The mitt has been broken in, but since its a catchers mitt, it doesn’t fold all the way over, even with the Flex-o-matic palm. The leather on the catching side could use some conditioning most likely. I cleaned it but left it alone after that. Coloring on front is varied. and also a bit on the back. Rawlings cloth patch on back shows some wear. Original lacing is intact with wear along the edges. All leather lacing and piping. Thumb and pinky finger straps are there and functional. Still has most of the wool padding on underside.I have other gloves and mitts on eBay now as auctions and/or Buy it Now, and I like to combine shipping whenever possible. If you win more than one glove on an auction, I’ll send you an auction for the combined shipping amount.
